Vulnerability and the tenuousness of survival is what this piece conveys to me. The sphere above the over capacity boats has a placenta-like quality, waters and “salted shore” seem to represent a birthing experience for those who make their way to shore. Shore and sky look pretty ominous. It makes me think of the reality of the immigrant experience, both the perils and the blind hope. It’s a very emotional and dramatic piece.
